Position: Designer and Developer
Opportunity
Fishpond is seeking a Designer and Developer to work closely with the Director of Design and Development. In this role, you will collaborate on design briefs, product development, and production, while also leading communication with our global vendors. We are looking for a talented individual with a passion for design, strong organizational skills, and experience in soft goods. Responsibilities

Assist the Director of Product Design in implementing Fishpond's design initiatives and long-term product line vision.

Establish strong relationships with our factory partners, both domestic and abroad, and effectively communicate design development processes.

Utilize software programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign to translate design directives into comprehensive spec packages. Experience with 3D software like Fusion 360 and Solidworks is a plus.

Contribute to the creation of sketches, 2D designs, and tech packs for new products.

Incorporate sustainability guidelines into each design in alignment with Fishpond's B Corp status.

Source, develop, and explore new materials and construction methods, with a focus on incorporating recycled materials.

Conduct research on current trends, perform competitive analysis, and develop design concepts and presentation boards.

Identify and implement new processes and procedures to enhance the efficiency of the product design and development cycle.

Ensure that sketches, renderings, and illustrations are well-organized for factory understanding and timely approval-sample production.

Test factory samples to ensure design concepts meet intended features and attributes.

Collaborate with the Director of Design to manage day-to-day operations related to product design and development.

Demonstrate leadership qualities to motivate Fishpond's team and contracted vendors, ensuring successful project completion aligned with the company's brand strategy.

Negotiate prices and minimum order quantities (MOQs) for finished goods, trims, fabrics, etc., while adhering to established guidelines.

Maintain a development tracking log, documenting changes, approvals, and other relevant information.

Contribute to maintaining and improving quality control standards.
Requirements

Bachelor's or technical degree in industrial design or closely related field.

Minimum of 5 years of design experience with soft goods, with an academic background in industrial design or equivalent work experience.

Passionate and relentless in the pursuit of creative excellence.

A portfolio that showcases design thinking and creative skills across various categories and formats, particularly in soft goods design.

Strong sketching skills and the ability to translate concepts into Adobe Illustrator.

Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite.

Passion for the outdoors, gear, and making a positive impact in the world.
- Comfortable working in a small team environment and willing to assist with other aspects of the business as needed.

Demonstrated ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Capable of independently developing design concepts for presentation to the Director of Design and executing them to completion.

Strong work ethic, ability to work independently under general direction, and openness to receiving constructive feedback.

Comfortable working in a small team environment and willing to assist with other aspects of the business as needed. This may include answering phones and providing technical assistance to customer service, warranty, and marketing departments.

Proven track record of successful project management and knowledge of the product cycle.

Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail.

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, with international trips usually limited to one or two times per year.
Salary Range
$75,000/yr - $130,000/yr+ based on experience
