Posting Description & Requirements

Are you interested in working for a customer-service oriented company with a great product? We are looking for sales reps in selected regions of the country to sell our product to retail garden centers, health food and gourmet grocery stores, and hardware stores. Great sales rep support. Independent contractor status.  

Job Expectations:

• Understanding terms, programs and product line thoroughly
• Creating and placing initial orders for the season
• Setting up displays for new clients and initial orders for current customers 
• Visiting customers 1-2 a month during peak season to straighten displays and assess for reorders and control of inventory
• Completing seed checkout at the end of the season for customers with Consignment or Buy Back sales terms. This entails counting all unsold seed at the end of the season and submitting a report to Botanical Interests. Donate remaining seed to local charities or return to BI (we pay shipping).
• Gaining new customers through drop-in visits to potential clients (cold calling)
• Selling new products to current customers to expand the BI line
• Occasionally working BI booth at local trade shows 
• Meeting sales expectations

Job Qualifications:

• Self-starter and able to complete tasks independently
• Organized and good record keeping
• Ability to approach potential clients to increase territory
• Background in sales and/or the garden industry
• Knowledge or an interest in gardening a plus
• Have own transportation and be able to travel throughout the territory
• Meet timely deadlines
• Access to computer, email and phone, and ability to send correspondence electronically
• Reliable availability during peak season (January-September)

• All written and promotional sales material
• Basic training on BI products, sales terms, and procedures
• BI-weekly sales and marketing tips via email
• Support from BI Customer Service and Regional Sales Managers
• Weekly reports for accounts (sales, shipping, out-of-stock, year-to-date sales, checkout)
• Materials to complete end of season checkout
• Reference Notebook (Book of BI) containing all relevant background and ordering info

Payment:

• Reps earn 10-15 percent commission on accounts depending on terms of sale
• Reps paid monthly after accounts have paid
