GOAL ZERO is launching a new product line and looking for a Product Manager & Sourcing Specialist to focus on this new line working within our Product Development team. The ideal candidate has experience sourcing consumer products from oversees manufactures and has strong project management skills to drive new projects forward with a balanced focus on product scope, launch timeline, and cost.  This ideal candidate also has a passion for products & gear with an instinct to dig deep into features & specifications in each category.

 

The role will involve leading various products from category research, to ideation, to requirements documentation, to sourcing, to validating in coordination with the Test team, to minor enhancements in conjunction with Industrial Design & Engineer staff, to launch.  This role will identify, plan, coordinate, implement and communicate status for new products.  They will balance new product requirements, launch timelines, and product costs while elevating trade-off decisions throughout the product sourcing and development journey.  They will define the project’s objectives, create schedules and implementation plans, and oversee the execution of the plan. The Product Manager & Sourcing Specialist will need to be able to identify, assess and minimize project risks until successful project completion. 

 

Experience with overseas manufacturers and the ability to recognize quality products and manufacturers is critical to the success of this role. Experience with consumer electronics and injection molded plastics, and related technologies is a major plus. This role will include collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Marketing, Operations, legal counsel, and manufacturing partners.

 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

• Works closely with manufacturers overseas to identify and create quality products.
• Define project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
• Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
• Identifies strong product and manufacturing opportunities.
• Recognizes quality product options and can present those options to stakeholders in an effective manner.
• Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
• Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities.
• Manages day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope.
• Reviews deliverables prepared by team before passing to client.
• Prepares for design reviews, stage-gate and go/no-go meetings, and other administrative document deliverables.
• Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
• Determines appropriate revenue recognition, ensures timely and accurate invoicing, and monitors receivables for projects.
• Analyzes project profitability, revenue, margins, bill rates, and utilization.
• Manages project budget. Plans and tracks budgets and expenditures for cost control.  Prepares cost control recommendations and scope changes for a given product or project.
• Understands basic revenue models, P/L, and cost-to-completion projections and makes decisions accordingly.
• Holds regular status meetings with the project team.
• Effectively communicates relevant project information to appropriate levels of management.
• Delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.
• Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion. 
• Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change.
• Keeps track of lessons learned and shares those lessons with team members.
• Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

• Willingness to travel to project sites, including overseas development and manufacturing partners, to perform job responsibilities.
• Computer proficient including Microsoft Office applications and schedule management.
• Minimum of 3+ years of project management experience and/or sourcing finished goods from overseas suppliers required
• 5+ years of experience preferred with BOTH project management and sourcing, specifically taking a product category, strategy, and brand and sourcing suppliers to bring finished goods to market
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Ability to deliver real and measurable results
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to influence and work closely with partners to determine acceptable solutions
• Excellent planning and time management skills with a track record of following through on commitments
• Team player

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:  

 

• Open office environment
• Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required
• Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders
• Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
