Job Description & Requirements

Position Overview:  

At Yakima we believe in connecting you, your family, friends and all your favorite gear to your desired destination or activity through our mission of enhancing the journey and earning trust every day.  The Technical Trainer & Events Specialist will be focused on designing and delivering training tools and resources that help support Yakima’s partners and consumer engagement. Other key aspects of this position include traveling to and training key partners in the field and at large format training events, as well as supporting the planning and execution of national and regional trade shows and consumer events. 

Yakima products are designed for consumers to “Take It Easy”.  This position will focus on the developing and delivering training for a variety of categories including bike, water, cargo, truck, trailer, fish, roof rack and base camp.  This position will advance expertise across the Yakima community—to inspire and enable technical product knowledge and confidence through courses, immersion training and learning resources.  This role will also assist in the coordination and facilitation for a full range of events and travel as needed. Based at the Yakima headquarters in Lake Oswego, OR but will require moderate travel in the field. 

Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll do:

 

=         Development of content and curriculum to Support Technical Training for partners, auto dealers and sales representatives, through video, digital, print content briefing and execution

=         Collaboration and support for the training program strategy and annual calendar development

=         GTM product launch support through live broadcast retail trainings

=         Large format training event coordination and execution (Training Tours)

=         Support consumer and trade show event planning, logistics and activation

=         Field technical training for high volume/specialized accounts

=         Day to Day Management of Yakima’s Learning Management System (Yakima Garage)

=         Development and execution of seasonal Yakima Garage calendar

=         Works with Engineering, Customer/Product Support and Category Managers to ensure that course materials reflect current product features, and is responsible for conducting audits/assessments of course materials, as needed, to determine their applicability to changing requirements.

=         Edits and maintains existing training documentation and materials.

=         Support field trainers logistics including travel

=         Other duties as assigned

 

What you Bring:

 

=         Bachelor’s degree; or a proven portfolio and work history in lieu of degree.

=         Experience designing, developing and delivering technical training curriculum for operational audiences in various formats including instructor-led, web-based and blended, preferred but not required

=         Capable of working in a fast paced, agile environment, where priorities and requirements change daily.

=         High level of problem analysis and troubleshooting skills.

=         Advanced knowledge/skills (ability to develop and create projects to completion from scratch) using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)

=         Excellent oral communication skills are a must

=         Clear, concise, professional, and comprehensive written communication skills

=         Excellent presentation skills and ability to present in front of an audience

=         Strong organization skills

=         Ability to manage and prioritize multiple competing priorities

=         Ability to take initiative, follow-through on requests until completion & utilize a keen attention to detail

=         Must be comfortable with ambiguity and be resourceful enough to find solutions on your own

=         Project management / project planning experience

=         Team-orientated approach; able to quickly and consistently establish rapport and collaborate effectively with clients, team members and partners. Must be flexible and willing to draw upon both technical training and soft-skill development to meet business needs.

=         Experience facilitating training using approved materials to comprehensively cover the course material without significant variation to ensure a consistent customer experience.

=         Experience designing and developing technical procedural learning assets: learning designs, job aids, facilitator guides, visuals, documentation

=         Demonstrate the ability to be flexible, accept new ideas and input positively, and be open to new work approaches and processes.

=         Zeal, energy and passion for outdoor sporting products

=         Experience working with technical products

=         Experience in the outdoor industry and/or automotive preferable

=         Professional experience with Yakima consumer products a plus

 

Work Environment:

 

Work takes place in both in an office setting and in the field.  This job may require working more than 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours a week. It requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time and communicate effectively with a diverse audience in person, by phone and by computer. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift, push, and carry up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 80 lbs occasionally.  Must be able to travel domestically and/or internationally via commercial carrier.  Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license and a good driving record.
