Job Summary
Pacific Cycle has been designing recreational wheeled products for 40 years and is the global leader in the design and distribution of products under the brands Kid Trax, Schwinn, Mongoose, InStep and numerous licensed products.
The Director, Business Development is responsible for leading the business development function, with a focus on incremental growth opportunities across both retail and non-retail channels. The role will drive “go-to market” strategies and build a new team that will be on the hunt for new customers and new channels to expand profitable growth.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Business Development Strategy: 30%
- Plan and coordinate the implementation of business plans that deliver results in new markets.
- Develop “go-to market” strategy for new customers and channels with the intention of gaining organizational buy-in.
- Provide market feedback to the company leadership regarding competitive offerings, prospect needs and generate product development strategy for new markets.
- Drive increased profitable revenue to achieve growth and profit targets.
- Build out communication methodology to give the organization visibility to weekly progress on activities.
Leadership and Team Development: 25%
- Provide for the overall management of new business development with a specific focus on incremental growth opportunities with new retailers and non-retail channels.
- Build out business development team when supported by business case to further expand profitable growth
- Train and develop team members on sales strategies and methodologies for new business sales success.
- Assess, communicate and mitigate risk to the business relative to existing customer relationship and new customer or channel opportunities.
New Business & New Channel Calls: 40%
- New Channel and new business calls will be required to have a business case built out, revenue targets, as well as established timeframes for achieving goals.
- Work with Marketing & Product Development to create new pitch materials and position our brands for success in new markets/channels.
- Consistently call on and track progress with new customers.
- Focus on developing business in hardware, home centers, value, rural, club and corporate channels.
Other Duties Assigned: 5%
- Follows internal controls and company policies set by Pacific Cycle Inc. and Dorel Sports.
- Contributes to the success of Pacific Cycle Inc. by leading or assisting with other projects and tasks as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required, degree in a relevant field required.
- Minimum of five (5) years management experience
- Prior experience working with senior management to align sales strategies and solutions is expected
- Prior experience in business development with demonstrated results
- Five (5) or more years of experience in one or more of the following channels: hardware; home centers; club; value; rural; toy; or, corporate sales
- Consumer Products experience required
- Experience in a corporate/business focused environment
- Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record of successfully pitching for new business and growing established business
- Self-starter with a high level of integrity who strives to achieve even in the most challenging environments with limited supervision.

- Analytical Thinking – exceptional ability to analyze data and utilize it to make sound business decisions
